Sutures, bandages and medicine are the tools that our physicians and healthcare staff use to restore the body. However, as caregivers, we cannot ignore the power of the mind and the stimulating effect on art in the curative process. Art inspires the soul, which in turn heals and rejuvenates the body.

From the Medicine of Art: A Retrospective of Public Art in New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation

The Foundation’s new fundraising campaign: The Art of Healing, introduces the program that will have fine art, including work by local artists, displayed throughout the Medical Center, including patient rooms. The Foundation will soon be reaching out with an opportunity to create a unique family legacy through supporting this special program.

The Fremont-Rideout Cancer Center is Expanding to Offer Even More Leading Edge Treatment Options and Patient-Centered Care to the Region

This past August, the Fremont-Rideout Health Group officially broke ground on the $19.4 million expansion of its Cancer Center. When completed in August of this year, the Center will have nearly doubled in size to 42,000 square feet and have added 11 infusion bays, six more exam rooms, a second linear accelerator and a PET CT scanner. The purchase of the linear accelerator and the PET CT scanner alone will cost more than $6 million.

“It’s the most expensive medical equipment a hospital can purchase,” explained Susan Vague, Administrator of the Fremont-Rideout Cancer Center. “With the addition of the PET CT scanner, every aspect of cancer patient care can be handled right here, all under one roof.”

Dr. Scott Christensen, Medical Director of the Fremont-Rideout Cancer Center and the UC Davis Cancer Care Network, reiterated the importance of the major investment in the new scanner. “The expanded Cancer Center will have new technologies that have never existed in this community before. The new PET CT is not just an imaging device, but also has interventional capabilities for sophisticated biopsies and precise line placement for infusion therapies,” he said.
