For the past five years, along with delivering quality care to the community, our organization has been focused on realizing its vision of “a regional medical center offering advanced medicine and a full continuum of healthcare services.” Cost controls, increased efficiencies, quality score improvements, technology investments, and recruiting the best and brightest medical professionals, have all played a part in the pursuit of this vision. Now, all that hard work has taken us a giant step closer to making the vision a reality.
On May 26, the Board of Directors of the Fremont-Rideout Health Group approved the plans and commitment of funds for a construction and development program that will expand the footprint and facilities of the Rideout campus and create a truly 21st century medical center, occupying six square blocks in historic Marysville. Street closures in July signaled the start of construction.
On August 3, we broke ground to nearly double the size of our renowned Cancer Center, which 11 years ago was a bold new venture with UC Davis Health Systems that became a model for similar facilities around the state. The expansion program will be anchored by a brand-new six-floor hospital building and tower, connected to the current Rideout Memorial structure, complete with a rooftop heliport for Life Flight operations. It also will include the much-anticipated enhancements to the Emergency Department, already a Level III trauma center and STEMI-receiving center.
The expansion program was made possible by two years of positive financial results, favorable credit ratings by Moody's and Standard & Poor's, and the hard work of Fremont-Rideout's two thousand dedicated professionals, volunteers and donors. As a truly non-profit organization, these rosy numbers represent not stockholder dividends but money that we can re-invest in our facilities, our people, our patients and our community.
It's an exciting time for all of us at Fremont-Rideout as, amid myriad challenges, we move ahead together to build, literally and figuratively, a healthcare organization that brings the best in medical services and facilities to the Yuba-Sutter region.
