The BIG GIFT of the evening was a gift for One Million Dollars to support the Emergency Department, a Level III Trauma Center and designated STEMI Receiving Center, to better serve patients and provide upgraded equipment for staff.

These wonderful volunteers were also honored:

Last year, they donated $20,000 to Rideout Memorial Hospital, the Cancer Center and F-R Medical Services Organization. The auxiliary also gave $5,000 to fund the Sherry Hall scholarship.

• Darnell Robinson, Community Development Director Clearinghouse CDFI, and long-time local resident, was honored as a Bequest Society member. Darnell joined the Bequest Society, “to leave a legacy for my mother, Ollie M. Robinson. A great loving and caring woman who molded me into the man I am today.”

Community Service of the Year

Bill Hill and Jim Richmond from Valley Muffler in Yuba City were honored as Community Service of the Year, for their contributions. For the past 11 years Valley Muffler has hosted a special car show at their establishment in Yuba City to raise funds for the Cancer Center. More than $15,000 has been donated.

Volunteer of the Year

The Volunteer of the Year award went to Kevin DeHoff owner of Country Florist. Since 2008, Kevin has sponsored National Make Someone Smile Week by delivering flower arrangements to patients at F-R Cancer Center, The Courtyard, The Fountains and The Gardens, Fremont-Rideout Home Health and Hospice and Women & Infants Services at FMC. He is assisted each year by a team of volunteers, including members of our Teen Leadership Council.

Humanitarian of the Year

Henry Miller, owner Valley Truck & Tractor, whose association with Fremont-Rideout goes back a long, long, way, well before the 1983 merger. Henry has served on the board of Rideout Memorial Hospital, then on the Fremont-Rideout Board. He has been a stalwart supporter and participant in all 21 years of our Fairway to Health Golf Tournament. He has always demonstrated compassion and dedication to the well-being of our community. And, generous? In just one recent year, Henry’s name appeared on the donor lists for 17 of the Foundation’s memorial funds.

Philanthropist of the Year

Dorothy Jang accepted the “Philanthropist of the Year” award on behalf of her family and her husband, Woodrow Jang.  Woodrow served on the Yuba College Foundation Board of Directors, 1979-1987, served as Chairman of Rideout Foundation, as well as President of the Marysville Lion’s Club and the Marysville Rotary. After Woodrow’s passing in 1997, Dorothy carried on the family tradition of community service. She is an ardent supporter of the performing and fine arts, Yuba College, the Friends of the Packard Library, and numerous other civic and charitable organizations. And, of course our community hospitals. Over the years, in addition to their volunteer time, the Jang Family has given more than $25,000 to the Foundation in support of non-profit healthcare.

And, finally

Phebe Rideout Award

Our highest accolade, the Phebe Rideout Award. This year, the Phebe Rideout Award goes not to one individual, but an entire family, Clan Morrison. John and Trish Morrison and mother Mitzi were all on hand to accept the designation in honor of Gayle Morrison, Mitzi’s husband and John’s dad.

Rotarians on both sides of the river, supporters of high schools in both Sutter and Yuba Counties, Little League Baseball, Yuba College Tennis and the United Way. Many of their community activities involve healthcare.

Among the recipients of their support in healthcare are the American Cancer Society, Pink October, the Make a Wish Foundation, the Pediatric Tumor Foundation and the Fremont-Rideout Foundation.

Gayle Morrison served on the FRHG Board of Directors

The Phebe Rideout Award is supported each year by James McClathcy, the great grandson of Phebe Rideout, and owner of the Sacramento Bee. Phebe established Rideout Memorial Hospital in honor of her husband, Norman Dunning Rideout, a visionary who helped shape banking, transport and commerce throughout northern California. To honor his great grandmother’s legacy of community service, Mr. McClatchy sponsors the Phebe Rideout Award, presented every other year at the Fremont-Rideout Foundation Evening of Appreciation Dinner.

This award is not intended to acknowledge financial contributions, nor is it limited to people directly associated with Fremont-Rideout. Its purpose is to honor any individual whose personal contributions to health care for the people of our region have been outstanding.
